Family Reunification Canada
Family reunification is one of the key objectives of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) — to “see that families are reunited in Canada” [IRPA, paragraph 3(1)(d)].
Approximately 25–30% of newcomers to Canada immigrate under Family Reunification programs (also known as Family Sponsorship).
Two Sides of Family Reunification
The Sponsor – A Canadian citizen or permanent resident who supports a family member’s immigration.
The Applicant – The family member seeking to immigrate to Canada.

Immigration Through Canadian Provinces
Canada consists of 10 provinces and 3 territories:
Provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Territories: Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.
The territories are more dependent on the federal government than the provinces.
Study permit applications
If you plan to study in Canada, you will likely need a study permit.
You need a study permit if:
You are a foreign national.
Your program duration is more than six months.
Examples of programs that require a study permit include:
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programs at universities.
Post-secondary diplomas or certificates at public or private colleges.
Elementary or secondary school programs (public, private, or boarding).
Temporary Resident Visas
Visit Visa (Temporary Resident Visa – TRV) to Canada
Many foreign nationals require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to visit Canada. Some visitors, however, are visa-exempt based on:
Their nationality,
The documents they hold, or
The purpose of their visit.
Misrepresentation Canada Visa and Immigration
When applying for an immigration visa, study permit, or work permit, you must answer detailed questions and submit supporting documents. These reveal key information such as:
Identity (name, date of birth, nationality, etc.)
Marital status (single, married, common-law, etc.)
Family members (dependent or non-dependent, accompanying or not)
Background (criminal, medical, or security issues)
Suitability (education, finances, work experience, etc.)
Ties (connections to home country or Canada)
Providing false, incomplete, or misleading information — intentionally or through omission — can be considered misrepresentation under Canadian immigration law.
Citizenship applications
Becoming a Canadian citizen is considered a privilege by many around the world. One of the main reasons people choose to immigrate to Canada is to eventually obtain citizenship — a status that represents belonging, rights, and a new beginning.
People may become Canadian citizens either by birth or through naturalization (also known as citizenship by grant).
